#5 Frilled Shark
First up on the list is the Frilled Shark. This primitive looking shark is a blast from the past, as looking at it gives you the feeling of looking at an animal that’s been here since before humans were even thought of. Experts date the existence of the frilled shark back millions of years. This shark of course has razor sharp teeth, but it’s the elongated body of the shark that gives it it’s unique – and slightly scary – appearance. They grow up to 6 feet long, however, their bite isn’t as forceful as other sharks. Also, you’re very unlikely to come into contact with one of these in the wild, because they live around 5000 feet below sea level.
#4 Giant Squid
While taking a swim in the ocean – or any body of water for that matter – the one thing you probably don’t want to some across is this – a giant squid. Also referred to as the Colossal Squid, these guys dwell deep in the water and can be as long as 46 feet and over 1400 pounds! The first documented discovery of this large sea animal was in 1925, when 2 very large tentacles were found latched on to the bottom of a sperm whale. The largest ever specimen was captured back in 2007, and it measured over 14 feet, however experts believe that the living animal was actually much longer – with the body of the squid having shrunk a bit after it died.
#3 Bobbit Worms
Who’s ready for some sea creatures that look like they’re straight out of a science fiction flick? This is a bobbit worm. These underwater dwellers can reach up to 10 feet in length, and actually walk around using the countless legs under their body. Now these animals are unique in that they bury themselves into the floor of the ocean, and when they sense a meal drawing near they attack – biting and injecting their victim with a toxin. One thing you don’t want to do is accidently introduce a bobbit worm into your controlled aquatic environment, as they can – and have – destroyed entire ecosystems with their stealthy attacks.
#2 Predatory Tunicate
So this next animal isn’t all that dangerous to humans, however it’s on the list because of how it looks. Some refer to the Predatory Tunicate as the ghost fish, as it looks very eerie with it’s transparent body and ominous body language. The Predatory Tunicate survives by anchoring itself onto the ocean floor, or along the walls of underwater canyons. They survive by staying stationary and allowing passing by food – like crustaceans or small fish – to simply get trapped in their mouths in sucked into their digestive track. The predatory tunicate is certainly a sight to behold.
#1 Goblin Shark
Now onto our final video of the day, and it certainly comes from perhaps the absolute ugliest shark swimming around in the ocean. The Goblin Shark is unique for many reasons, but most noticeably is the weird looking head that it swims around with. The Goblin Shark, who got its name because – well, because it looks like a goblin – dates back 125 million years, according to some experts. This deep sea shark has a strong petruding jaw that actually means it could project it’s jaw out of it’s head to eat it’s prey. This weird animal is certainly scary, but typically dines on smaller meals. And that is today’s video. If you like today’s video leave a thumbs up and share it with your friends.
